The Authority carries out operational research in its station in Mwea Irrigation Agricultural Development (MIAD) Centre and Ahero Irrigation Research Station (AIRS). The research covers optimizing crop selection, determining irrigation regimes for different crops in different areas and pilot irrigation innovations. The research programmes are executed in collaboration with other stakeholders and partners in irrigation service delivery such as universities, research institutes (KARLO), manufacturers of produce among others.
